February 20th is Love your Pet Day.

This site will tell you about all of the “Pet Days” that occur during the year. In keeping with this theme, I thought it would be great to highlight some of the awesome novel studies we have in the Learning Commons based on some interesting pets.

Charlotte’s Web Audio Book and Novel Study

Charlotte’s Web is about a pig named Wilbur and his friendship with a spider named Charlotte. After Wilbur is in danger of becoming dinner, Charlotte writes messages praising the pig in her web in the hopes of sparing his life. Our unit provides teachers with a highly structured format for teaching language arts as students develop a love for reading longer materials like novels. Various areas such as reading comprehension, vocabulary development, spelling, grammar, and writing are all entwined in this integrated approach eliminating the need for teaching these skills separately. This Novel Study provides a teacher and student section with a variety of activities, chapter questions, crossword, word search, and answer key to create a well-rounded lesson plan.

Owls in the Family E-book and Novel Study

Owls in the Family, by Farley Mowat, is set on the shores of the South Saskatchewan River. It is a timeless story about two boys exploring their environment after a long prairie winter. The smell of the thawing wheat fields and the warming earth draws them to wide open spaces like gophers scampering out of their burrows. They are on a mission to find an owl’s nest. Through their initial quest they will learn precious lessons about animals and people. This Novel Study provides a teacher and student section with a variety of activities, discussion questions, evaluation, and answer key to create a well-rounded lesson plan.

Mr. Popper’s Penguins E-book and Novel Study

Mr. Popper’s Penguins is the story of Mr. Popper, who suddenly must support twelve penguins along with his wife and two children. To make ends meet, Mr. Popper decides to put the talented penguins on the stage. Our unit provides teachers with a highly structured format for teaching language arts as students develop a love for reading longer materials like novels. Various areas such as reading comprehension, vocabulary development, spelling, grammar, and writing are all entwined in this integrated approach eliminating the need for teaching these skills separately. This Novel Study provides a teacher and student section with a variety of activities, chapter questions, crossword, word search, and answer key to create a well-rounded lesson plan.
