New Audiobooks!

The learning commons is thrilled to share that we have recently curated a large collection of audio books for elementary and high school students, on OverDrive eLibrary.  They may be read via SORA our student app or on the desktop version of OverDrive eLibrary.

Why AudioBooks as a Reading Choice?

  1.  They are super easy to use with a tablet or cellphone.  Students can clean the house, or cook dinner while they listen.
  2.  Parents can have quiet time whilst the whole family listens to a read-aloud story.
  3.  Students will enhance reading skills when hearing the spoken word and they will build a much higher word bank than simply reading alone.  When a student reads the same words in a book they will recognize the words based on auditory retention.
  4.  Students can challenge themselves to read more difficult books.
  5. They are fun and entertaining, with famous authors reading many of the new audiobooks.
  6. There is no stigma related to audiobooks as no one can see what you are listening to.
  7. They meet a need for students who are having a hard time learning to read.
  8. Read-Along books offer both the visual text and audio built in and come in many non-fiction topics.

How do I use AudioBooks?
