New Grade 7 Digital Unit Study Kits for Science – Available Now!

Term 3 is well under way.  Does your Grade 7 student need to finish up that final unit in science?  Our newest Grade 7 Digital Unit Study Kits may be just what you are looking for!

Each kit focuses on one of the Big Ideas in BC’s New Curriculum, so for each grade and subject, you’ll notice that we provide a variety of kits.  Complete some, complete them all … they’re designed to fit seamlessly into your overall student learning plan.

In each of our Digital Unit Study kits, you will be provided with suggested books from the HCS Overdrive E-Library, (you’ll need your login information to access), videos to watch, and activities to share with your child.  These kits are all about student choice and enabling your student to focus on areas where they have the most interest.  Therefore, you will not be required to complete all activities listed under each key question, instead, you will be able to choose activities which most appeal to you and your child.

Each key question featured in the unit will include recommendations on how many activities to complete in order to fully address the curriculum content and competencies. Finally, each activity will have icons showing which competencies of BC’s new curriculum the activity addresses.

If you prefer to use physical books, you’ll need to find the kit you are looking for and reserve it in our L4U Physical Library.  Again, you’ll need your login information, and once logged in, go to advanced search by author “Rachael Freed” to find and reserve the Unit Study Kit of your choice.

Meaningful Composition

char

Last April, Ray and Donna Reish were Keynote speakers at the BC Christian Home Educators’ Convention in Kelowna.  Their workshops encouraged and inspired! And they generously donated their newest curriculum Meaningful Compositions to our Learning Commons!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Here is what they have to say about it:

The Meaningful Composition (MC) series is a multi-level writing program for students in grades two through twelve who desire to use character-based (and sometimes biblically-based) materials, themes, and subject matter, including, but not limited to, character
stories, biographies, science and weather/nature topics, animal information, Bible stories, and much more. (You may see the types of papers and assignments and content by looking at the two-week samples of each book below.

Additionally, MC uses many of our original methods that we have tested with one hundred to two hundred students every year for the past ten years. These methods work—whether they are Directed Brainstorming and Scene-by-Scene development for story writing or Outlining Cards and Bibliography Cards for Research Report writing or the Three P’s of Persuasion for Essay Writing.

We take students by the hand and leave nothing to chance! (These methods can also be found in our samples.)

Donna also has some video tutorials available: Video

Meaningful Composition – A Powerful Writing Program

Precept-Upon-Precept Approach to Writing
Now families who want to offer their children a rich, in-depth, precept-upon-precept approach to writing can use the new Meaningful Composition by Training For Triumph. With instructions from prewriting (outlining, finding source material, researching, and more) to rough draft writing to revising to final product writing, Meaningful Composition is a compilation of the “writing only” parts of Character Quality Language Arts.

Most Complete Writing Program Available
Using a “directed writing approach,” Meaningful Composition tells your child how much to write, what to put in each paragraph, etc., in a step-by-step format. Each book contains two levels so that more advanced students in each level are expected to write more details and complete more revisions than the beginners. Meaningful Composition is not for every child, but for the child who loves to write and for the college–bound, you won’t find any more complete program.

We now have Levels 4 through 12 available in our physical L4U library.  Search for Meaningful Composition by Series to find all of the levels.
