Learning Commons Resources
Fifth graders have an exciting, challenging, and thought-provoking year ahead of them as they explore issues within Canada, and in the wider world. The fifth grade Social Studies Kits are carefully designed to leave students well-prepared for the equally exciting sixth-grade social studies program! As they work through each kit, fifth graders will be able to read, view, research, ask driving questions, design projects and learning activities, use technology-based tools, share their learning with others, and explore content areas of interest, all within the framework of the kit.
Each fifth-grade social studies kit is designed to integrate the Modernized BC Curriculum Core Competencies: Communication, Creative and Critical Thinking, and Personal and Social Skills/Knowledge. Topics explored in our fifth-grade social studies kits include: Human Rights, Immigration, and Discrimination, the Canadian Government, and First Peoples Land Use. Each kit also integrates concepts in numeracy, literacy, art, technology, and design thinking!
We have a wide variety of books, curriculum and DVDs that cover this topic.
