Fifth grade is an exciting time, and it marks a transition for many of our students into more independent learning opportunities! Our fifth-grade Learning Commons Science Kits are designed to be a dynamic introduction to an array of science topics, that strike a balance between parent-led activities, and student-directed learning.
Exciting concepts in physics, chemistry, biology, and earth/space science continue to be explored this year! Each kit is designed to integrate the Modernized BC Curriculum Core Competencies: Communication, Creative and Critical Thinking, and Personal and Social Skills/Knowledge.
Topics explored in our fifth-grade science kits include: Machines, Human Body Systems, Solutions, and Natural Resources. Each kit also integrates concepts in numeracy, literacy, art, technology, and design thinking! Kits can be completed in any order based on student interest and availability of materials.
Science kits are designed to be completed over a period of 6-8 weeks depending on the number of activities selected. Each fifth-grade science kit is divided into sections based on driving questions. You will have the opportunity to work through each kit section by choosing your own materials, projects and activities to create a unique learning experience with your child.
We have worked diligently to choose an array of exciting learning opportunities for every learner! The materials, projects, and activities contained in the kit have been carefully selected to address the big ideas, competencies, and content of BC’s Modernized Curriculum.
