Fourth-grade social studies is filled with adventure! In the fourth grade Social Studies Kits we dive into the past where we learn about the history of exploration in Canada, the impact of colonization on First Peoples, and the unique path British Columbia has taken to become the province we know and love today!

Each fourth-grade social studies kit is designed to integrate the Modernized BC Curriculum Core Competencies: Communication, Creative and Critical Thinking, and Personal and Social Skills/Knowledge. Log in to BrainPOP to find the Social Studies videos available OR go to BrainPOP Educators (no username/password required) which has the option to choose BC curriculum standards.

Log in to The Canadian Reader or go to LesPlan – Subscribers for the latest issues and student resource links.

The Canadian Reader is a current events news magazine for students in Gr. 3-5.  Look for a full description under “Subscriptions” in the main menu above.

Log in to Curio.ca and search among the many social studies-related topics for the age 9-12 range.  This subscription is a very strong resource for Canadian history and current affairs.  You can also check under Resources to find the curriculum for Social Studies 4:  First Peoples and European Contact.

Curio.ca offers the audio and video content from CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) and Radio-Canada for unique Canadian content.  (K-12, but mostly high school content)  Look for a full description under “Subscriptions” in the main menu above.

Log in to Discovery Education Streaming (Canada)  and search for Social Studies topics.  There will be topics such as:  Civics, Canadian Studies, United States History, Geography, Ancient Civilizations and World History.

Log in to Explora Primary.

EBSCOhost’s Explora is a site to encourage student research with extensive, reliable content and ease of use.  (K-12 content)  Look for a full description under “Subscriptions” in the main menu above.

Log in to KnowBC and search by going to an encyclopedia or book and searching it.

KnowBC is the leading general reference site for British Columbia, including such resources as the Encyclopedia of British Columbia and other reference works.  (Gr. K-12)  Look for a full description under “Subscriptions” in the main menu above.

Log in to Learn360 before you choose a topic or “click” on a link.  Once in Learn360 select a topic such as Geography, Government, Social Studies or World Cultures, then filter for the appropriate grade range.
