First graders love hands-on explorations of God’s created world, and our kits are designed to engage this natural curiosity into a thorough, age-appropriate exploration of science concepts and the scientific method. Each kit is designed to integrate the Modernized BC Curriculum Core Competencies: Communication, Creative and Critical Thinking, and Personal and Social Skills/Knowledge.
Topics explored in our first-grade science kits include: Sky, Weather, Sun, Moon and Stars, Light and Sound, Features of Living Things, and Local Environment. Each kit also integrates concepts in numeracy, literacy, art, technology, and design thinking! Kits can be completed in any order based on student interest and availability of materials.
Science kits are designed to be completed over a period of 6-8 weeks depending on the number of activities selected. Each first grade science kit is divided into sections based around driving questions. You will have the opportunity to work through each kit section by choosing your own materials, projects and activities to create a unique learning experience for your child.
We have worked diligently to choose an array of exciting learning opportunities for every learner! The materials, projects, and activities contained in the kit have been carefully selected to address the big ideas, competencies, and content of BC’s Modernized Curriculum.
