Sixth-grade science is often a favourite year for learners! Our exciting Learning Commons Science Kits take students on an incredible journey across our planet, out through the solar system, inside the human body, and into the fascinating world of chemistry. Students are increasingly challenged to complete independent research projects, design their own experiments, and share and present their learning to others.
Each kit is designed to integrate the Modernized BC Curriculum Core Competencies: Communication, Creative and Critical Thinking, and Personal and Social Skills/Knowledge. Topics explored in our sixth-grade science kits include: the Solar System, Newton’s Laws of Motion, Mixtures and Solutions, Human Body Systems, and Extreme Environments and Space Exploration. Each kit also integrates concepts in numeracy, literacy, art, technology, and design thinking! Kits can be completed in any order based on student interest and availability of materials.
Science kits are designed to be completed over a period of 6-8 weeks depending on the number of activities selected. Each sixth-grade science kit is divided into sections based on driving questions. You will have the opportunity to work through each kit section by choosing your own materials, projects and activities to create a unique learning experience with your child.
We have worked diligently to choose an array of exciting learning opportunities for every learner! The materials, projects, and activities contained in the kit have been carefully selected to address the big ideas, competencies, and content of BC’s Modernized Curriculum.
