Encyclopedia of BC through KNOWBC.com is available to all HCOS students. KNOW BC.com includes more than 4000 authoritative entries and 1500 photographs, maps, charts, tables, sound and video clips covering BC people, places, events, culture, accomplishments, inventions, and resources. The teacher resources are available for both contemporary BC and its history.  In addition, BC outcomes are correlated to specific data links within the encyclopedia.

The KnowBC page includes a KnowBC Quiz, “Did You Know?” and sample articles you can view.

To find the password for KNOWBC.com, please log in to your parent home page in Encom, the school computer; choose “Curriculum Resources”; then scroll down to find the link, username and password.

Once in the site, you can log in to any of the resources available.  There are three ways to access them:

  • On the home page, scroll down to the book or resource of your choice.
  • Go to “Books” in the menu bar along the top.
  • Go to “Searching KnowBC in the navigation along the left side.

The easiest way to find specific information in this site is not through using the search bar at the top.  Find your book or resource first.  Then browse the index to find the headings which will lead to the information you need.

E.g. in the Encyclopedia of British Columbia page, scroll down under the description to find the words, “Enter a keyword in the “Search this Book” window or click here to Browse the Index.”
