Comprehensive

  • Dynamic Classroom Math – aligned with BC’s curriculum; focus on clearly explaining new concepts and problem-solving strategies.
  • Crescent Beach Publishing – Grade 8 and up. Workbooks align with the BC curriculum. All exercises come complete with answers. All word problems come with step-by-step solutions, including detailed illustrations when necessary.  Step-by-step solutions to exercises are in the workbook.
  • Jump Math is a scaffolding math program that breaks math down to learn each step. Access the correct free teacher guide online here (you must sign up for a free account first).  Well-aligned with BC’s modernized curriculum for content, although it is not overly strong in hands-on learning.
  • Life of Fred – This curriculum is cautiously recommended; please consult with your support teacher first.  Students are drawn into why math procedures are useful to be learned – everything first happens in Fred’s everyday life so every piece of math is motivated by a need.  This resource is not your typical math curriculum. It does not fit neatly into grades; see our Math Correlations Index here.
  • Saxon Math – an incremental approach whereby concepts are woven together and connected throughout the year. Skills or concepts are reinforced throughout the years, helping students build a strong foundation of understanding.
  • Singapore Mathematicsabout a year ahead of BC’s standards in this grade range.

Remedial/Supplementary

  • Bridge the Gap Math – great for students that have missed essential concepts anywhere along the way in Grades 4 – 7; will assist grade 8 and 9 students preparing for Workplace Mathematics 10.
  • Math Mammoth Blue Series – this is a great series for catching up students who have fallen behind and need to pick up the foundational skills before moving on to Grades 9 and 10 and beyond.  Each book includes explanations of the concepts and lots of varied problems, essentially a textbook and workbook into one.
